What the price means
The figures here are the value of the pure metal at today's spot price. Anyone who buys your gold has to melt and refine it and make a margin, so their offer will be below this. Offers vary between buyers, which is why it's worth getting more than one quote and comparing them with the offer checker.
Each figure is the gold or silver content of one gram of that purity. 18ct gold is 750 parts per thousand pure, so a gram of it contains 0.75 g of gold. How we calculate

Common questions
What is the price of 9ct gold per gram today?
The table at the top of this page shows it, updated every 4 hours. 9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold, so its metal value per gram is 37.5% of the price of pure gold.
Why will a buyer offer less than these prices?
These are spot values of the pure metal. Buyers have to refine the metal and make a margin, so offers are below spot. Compare offers as a percentage of the metal value.
How do I know what carat my gold is?
Look for the hallmark. In the UK it includes a fineness number: 375 is 9ct, 585 is 14ct, 750 is 18ct, 916 is 22ct and 999 is 24ct.
How often are prices updated?
Every 4 hours, from live spot prices converted to pounds at the latest exchange rate. The time of the last update is shown under the table.
