The UK silver standards
The UK Assay Offices recognise four silver standards: 999 (fine silver), 958 (Britannia), 925 (sterling) and 800. The number is the parts of pure silver in every 1,000.
Silver items under 7.78 g are exempt from hallmarking, so a light chain or pair of earrings may have no mark. Hallmarks explained
The figures here are the value of the pure metal at today's spot price. Anyone who buys your gold has to melt and refine it and make a margin, so their offer will be below this. Offers vary between buyers, which is why it's worth getting more than one quote and comparing them with the offer checker.
